ART IS YOU RETREAT 2013, IN STAMFORD, CT

ART IS YOU
STAMFORD, CT
JUST AROUND THE CORNER.
WHAT'S IN STORE?

This October 10 - 14 Art Is You will be in Stamford, CT.  This is my neck of the woods.  Art Is You is also in Petaluma, Ca, Nashville, TN and Australia.

In Stamford, CT, this venue will occur at the Stamford Sheraton.  Here you will find the most accommodating staff, the most airy wonderful rooms, a great cafe and restaurant, and wine or lattes that floweth over at the spacious bar, dead center.

TEACHING

The workshops are non stop (10 to 13 of them running each day).  Currently 5 are sold out and there are 6 with only ONE SPOT LEFT!

Each evening there will be Art At the Bar and a special Eat Cake and Create Event.  Every morning there will be motivators and some surprises for all.

GIVING

The tradition of Art Is You is to embrace giving.  Each year Art Is... hold events where all their proceeds are donated to the Charity of their choice.
In 2012, they raised $11,000 which included funds for Hurricaine Sandy victims, The Fabulous Women (a Petaluma CA womans cancer awareness group), Sarah's House in Maine, and the BCI orphanage in Cambodia.  As well, Art Is You funds a scholarship that enables people attend one of their own events!  How cool is that?

FAMILY

The Art Is You family are a special bunch.  Organized by Sallianne McClelland and Ellen Legare, and a few other magical gals, this creative mixed media retreat has grown from a few art inspired women taking classes into hundreds, no I think, thousands, of like minded, giving, caring and creative types from all over the world who want to attend all the latest and greatest workshops!

Art Is You is the first real, honest to gosh retreat, that I had ever vended a few years back.  Sal and Ellen's laughter and giving spirit was so contagious that I just knew that I wanted to be a part of their retreat as an art instructor.  Although I had many years teaching clinical nursing and had retired from the IV's and enemas, would I be able to teach a new audience?  I had always created art and dabbled in local shows to sell a few things.  It was over time that I eased into the exchange of healthcare equipment to power tools, metal and glass.

But was I ready?  Ellen and Sal held my hand, got me through a bunch of heebie jeebies, and let me grow into my own.......and for that I thank them from the bottom of my heart.  Their support gave me the courage and confidence to move ahead.

SPOTLIGHT INSTUCTOR

There are many woman that are fabulous who attend and teach at Art Is You.  You may have seen my post on Nellie Wortman and Dawn Gold, who is from the UK.  Another woman I want to introduce you to is Linda Willis.

Linda Willis, one of the Art Is You instructors for 2013, is from Norwood, Mass and lives in  Peace Dale, Rhode Island. Linda has been making art for 37 years, beginning at age 8, making her own paper doll clothes.  Although now retired, she has not stopped creating and sharing her awesome work by teaching and attending creative mixed media retreats.

VENDING AT CREATE!

Bookcase Displays For Tiny Book Pendants

I would love to say this was one of my crazy ideas...but it was not.  People have been cutting apart books to use in many projects....art and jewelry displays included.  Cousin Amy Weston passed this idea along to me, so I gave it a go to make an interesting display for some of my things at the upcoming CREATE event.  Thought I would share the final product.  Love how it turned out!

My Workshops at Little Bird Creations Studio

Shotgun Shell Bezel Rings Filled With Bliss and An Honest To Gosh Mini Journal At Little Bird Creations Studio in September!

Friends and family know how I love to travel to NYC to visit, shop and teach! My next series of workshops there will be hosted in the Big Apple by Michele Luxenberg of Little Bird Creations Studio.
I invite you to check out my classes.  On Saturday, I will be teaching how to make rings out of shotgun shell brass bezels WITHOUT solder!  We will fill them with love and ephemeral offerings!   On Sunday a perfect little book unfolds.  Made from resin and bound tightly, you will be able to fill it with your handwriting, art or mini photos and wear it around your neck.
