Cargo Vessel Necklace Featured In Belle Armoire Jewelry Magazine

Whimsical Cargo Necklace To Be Featured In The Fall 2014 Belle Armoire Jewelry Magazine

The Expression "woot" just doesn't do it here!  I think these look so very fabulous, and I am so, so lucky to have the team at Stampington think so too.

These necklaces were sooooo much fun to make.  They are made from recycled materials and I know everyone will be surprised to find out exactly what I used.

I am totally having a passionate affair with these...gathering shells, removing the plastic, etching, searching for the right size tubing.....ohhhh, what fun! I am having some issues etching my casings....Any tips would be appreciated.... I used Ferric Chloride from Radio Shack...etching is very light , if at all.... Yours are fantastic...I have long been a fan of your bullet shell jewelry... I like the way your mind works...

Hi Brooke! Thank you first of all for the kind words...
I sometimes add citric acid granules to my ferric chloride to give it a boost if the solution is old or weak. These are found at a health food store or at a pharmacy. Also check the grocery store and online. Then I make sure the solution is agitated during etching so deposits do not lay in areas you want to etch. Make sure the solvent ink stamp you use is dark. If it is lightly applied there will not be as big as etch in metal. With the brass shotgun shells, I try to check at 20 minute mark. you want to keep an eye on it since brass is think on those shells and it can eat away quickly. Sometimes though, the etching takes up to 40 minutes....again, depending on the ferric chloride solution. Hope this helps!

Thanks Lynne! That is extremely helpful. I think the problem is that these are newer shells and aren't brass. I wasn't completely sure from your photos if yours were brass or not. I knew mine weren't but gave it a go anyway. Regardless, I love the way they look assembled. I recently cited you for inspiration in a post: http://artisticendeavor101.blogspot.com/2014/09/a-favorite-creation-etched-bullet.html
Hope you don't mind. You are one of my favorite artists....
Best, Brooke
