Snakes In A Bucket

The Snake Hunter

strategy and,,,

patience

Every creature wants a place to live, away from the dangers and hype of cosmopolitan central. But sometimes it doesn't always work out between nature and the homeowner. These reptile citizens were taking over the pond and causing a bit of trouble with the ecosystem (mainly fish fright).  We had to intervene.  As you can see, one waits it out and eventually snares five water snakes. Surely a solution could be for for everyone, so we took our bucket for a drive toward snake suburbia........

Bonnie Wagner Sporting A Simply Pretty Stuff Original

California Girl Loves Simply Pretty Rings
And Belle Armoire

Bonnie and Doug Wagner now live in California.  They met up with me for a quick visit at the Ragged Edge Coffee shop, in Gettysburg, after visiting with family in York.
Funny how small the world is....Bonnie and Doug were in London a few years back, staying in the same Hilton that hubby and I were staying.  We met in the lounge there and the immediate kinship between us that was so much fun and so very cool.  Finding out that they were from our own backyard in PA was unexpected.
Bonnie loves those shotgun shell rings that I have been creating.  We enjoyed my feature in Belle Armoire Jewelry over a bit of lunch time refreshment and catch up.

Classics Book Class

Precious Little Books And A Whole Lot of Fun
At The Charmed I'm Sure Studio

Can Jean Van Brederode throw the best create art retreats, or what??
Her studio is in the middle of the most peaceful surround....  The flowers, the forest, the birds and the woodland creatures great everyone who strolls down the winding path to her arrive at her marvelous studio entrance.
Once inside, it is like a candy store for artists and inventors.  You will find allllll the Thompson glass supplies and a super duper enameling kiln.  There are drill presses and hammers, disc cutters and soldering irons.  All the acids and resists are shelved throughout and you will find the glitter, wool and beads tucked here and there, in between all kinds of prototypes and marvelous, marvelous, jewelry strewn about.
Gosh!  How wonderful it was to teach a whole day in Jean's studio!!  We had the most fun and the best lunch break ever (well, OK, the one at my studio with the gals was scrumptious too : )
There were 13 of us in all.  As instructor, I had the best position in the house as I was able to walk all around as I demo'ed.
The day was full of sharing and ew's and ah's as we completed all of our little classic book pendants and wore them home.
Enjoy the view below!
Thank you girls for being great students!!
Thank you Jean for being the best art hostess!!!!

Necklaces Go Green!!

Terrarium Bottle Necklaces!

I just spent some time, in between the rainy days, removing my wicked, wicked weeds from the nooks and crannies of my flower beds....

I love our outdoor spaces now.  Over the past dozen or so years, we planted many trees, carved out a few perennial beds, worked at two pond excavations, and got a patio going....

That said, it is a good place here now.  Birds everywhere, and of quite a variety.  'Twas not the case when we moved here.  We built smack on a barren piece of dirt with wetlands at the very bottom of the hill.  It was wonderful watching the transformation.

I decided that I would put a piece of our green living space into a necklace, and liked it so much, I am going to do a lot more.  : )

Today was also my interview about upcoming classes with Wendy from the ACAC.  I took this latest little terrarium with me to share on local TV.  Look for the clip here soon!

Classic Books Workshop At Local Studio

Join Me For This All Day Workshop Event!

Hosted By Jean Van Brederode
At the Charmed I'm Sure Studio
Wed, May 23, from 10:30 to 5:00
Little Classic Book Pendant
Class at Charmed I'm Sure Studio
As Posted By Jean.....
thank you Jean!!
Lynne's very personal Little Classic Book Pendant workshop is jam-packed with techniques that you can use over and over again for your artwork! This tiny, but exquisite (1" X 1.5") journal has pages yet unwritten for your quirky poetry or secret thoughts and wishes.
Students will learn how to prepare and solder copper plates, use guilder's paste, assemble and add pages to little books with binders glue, transfer images to leather and create an ingenious, unique hinging method for closure.
You will be learning soldering skills to create the front and back of the book. Creativity will take over as you add brass findings or imprints to the cover. You'll use real leather for the spine and personalize the title with a transfer technique onto the leather. As the last step, you will fill your mini-marvel with pages of heavy paper stock, and clasp with a special swivel piece that you'll fashion with wire. Lynne's Little Classic Book Pendant is perfect to hang on a simple, yet “classic” necklace to show it off!

Bling Bling From Renninger's Antique Mall

Bling For My Rings!

On the way back from one of our many travels as of late, my husband detoured right past the wild and wonderful Renninger's Antique Mall in Adamstown, PA.  How can that man read my mind anyway?!  Well, it was, of course, a most successful forage.  Look what we found!
I know just how I will use some of them!  : )

Jean Van Brederode's Nesting InStiNcts

A Day At The Charmed I'm Sure Studio

Just a smige north of the PA turnpike, between Carlisle and Harrisburg, is the Charmed I'm Sure studio of enamel artist, Jean Van Brederode.  Jean is well known in her circle, a wonderful artist and teacher who adds love and knowledge to the mix when it comes to copper anything!  What I found most exciting and attractive were her nested bird egg necklaces.

Jean and I met at the most recent Art & Soul retreat in Virgina and I loved  her style and enthusiasm for teaching.  I had also heard from some of her students who had taken Jean's workshop about how terrific she was in the classroom.

I finally was able to sneak away to visit Jean and when I got there, could not stop oogling her tools as well as her setting.  There was a pond with tadpoles, lots of birds and birdfeeders, and the calming wooded backdrop.  I could have stayed for days at her studio sanctuary.....

While I visited, Jean was gracious enough to show me the down and dirty of copper enameling.  I was able to make a bird's nest necklace for my mother in law and cannot wait till she see's it.  Of course, I also had to buy one of Jean's treasures for my own.  Just love these, don't your?

Saving A Bit of Spring Time

Tulips Clipped

Brrrrr.  The temps will be back down to freezing tonight....or lower, after an early warm spring.  We enjoyed our early blooms here in South Central PA , but know the thermometer dip to freezing may threaten those tender plants, since they are not frost hearty.  We enjoyed the first asparagus pick this evening and clipped a few of my most favorite colored tulips.
Getting under that woolen quilt at least one more time this year!!

Ethelreda Miller Touching Lives

Brilliant and Beautiful
Is How I Will Remember Her

Late Tuesday night, she left her mother earth, quietly passing, leaving us on the gentle slight wind of the night air.
I will miss this vibrant, wonderful woman, a creative soul.  I am so lucky to have known her, and through her, found pieces of a missing past that would make me whole again.  For that, and for the hours of thoughtful conversation on our journey, I will always remember ...and be grateful that she was part of my life.

salt shaker chic

Transformed Salt Shakers

Those who know me, know I horde a few things.  Not everything, oh no!  I just collect special old, forgotten items that would fit into the palm of your hand, old books, bottles and a few sparkly things.

I have a shelf that displays medicine and bitters bottles, salt shakers, perfume, and canning jars with the zinc lids.  Our son and his wife carry on the collecting tradition, since he was the one who brought me my first broken bits of jars and bottles from an old farmer's pit in our back yard when he was just a boy.

Here are a few new life pieces...  A salt shaker that now holds blue shimmer and a brass hinged creamer with a few old spigot parts and queeny girl necklace.  A couple of fee spaces now on the shelf for newcomers.

Share and Support
At Art & SOul

So many happy faces, so many new friends, and such creativity found this year at Art & Soul.  This has been a much needed retreat to rejuvenate instructors as they swap stories, laugh out loud, and celebrate art and life.

As well, the this retreat honors students who seek mentorship, learning, and new skills to take back to home and studio to create some magic of their own.

For myself, I found some of the most amazing women.... artists from my own back yard!  Looking so forward to sharing our art filled lives soon. How lucky and so very timely for me.

I was moved, honored and thrilled to find such support and comradery from not only local colleagues, but from the Aussie gals, an ocean away!  I know you met them on the Art & SOul blog hop.  Visit Christine Atkins  www.christineatkins.net and Jen Crossley www.amarkintime.blogspot.com to see what beautiful things they create and what they are up to.  Learn how to create shadow boxes, bracelets, rivets and rings with cold connections by signing up for their future US events like Art & Soul in Portland this fall,  www.artandsoulretreats.com
